Business is going bad for the engineering company Roth, and when the design of their sensational new welding device is apparently stolen Uli asks his uncle, detective Bruno, to take matters in his hands. Reluctantly, Bruno agrees.

An industrial robot is sabotaged and destroyed by an employee who is killed in the act. Uli and Ricarda are hired to infiltrate the work force. They find engineer Dr. Trölsch who seems to deliberately delay work on the new prototype.

Stray horses have been killed in a freeway accident. Löffelhardt smells an insurance scam and suspects that racing stable owner Arbo is involved. But Arbo sets a trap, leaving Löffelhardt in a life-threatening situation.

Bruno is kidnapped by gangster boss Brosser but insists that he didn't tell the cops about the drug transport. So the gangsters kidnap Ricarda to put the pressure on Bruno. Egon finds his colleagues and even tracks down the real snitch.

As the house of Irene's Granny appears haunted, Irene has Egon check it out. He finds mechanical devices designed to scare the old lady. But by whom? At the same time Egon deals with a hit-and-run accident that left his client paralyzed.

Bruno is hired by pimp Dassel to find out details regarding the plans for a hostile takeover by competitor Bentin. Egon investigates, finds a concept for the violent ambush, enrages the gangsters and narrowly escapes two murder attempts.

Shipyard owner Kaltenberg is irked by competitor Lüscher who undercuts his offers with ridiculously low prices. Egon investigates. One clue: Lüscher imports steel from East Germany. But the East Germans question Lüscher's methods as well.

Someone dumps huge rocks on the freeway. When a man is seriously injured his wife hires Bruno's team. Egon finds that all rocks are from the same quarry, but there are two groups of perpetrators. And he knows where they will strike next.

Bruno's friend Gustl finds that chief engineer Dr. Melchior sells his recent research results to a competitor. Gustl doesn't tell Melchior's boss but tries to blackmail Melchior. Gustl is assaulted and badly hurt. Bruno's team step in.

Engineer Köbner steals a valuable artifact to solve his financial problems. But the item had already been stolen from an Italian monastery. Current owner Blaschka tries to cover the loss with an insurance fraud. Bruno and Egon investigate.
