In this first episode, Jan is upset about her daughter's behavior. The girl seems too mature for her age. The only solution seems to be to move out of the apartment. Jan sings "Nothing Could Be Finer."

Josie is in a school play and after a good performance likes all the attention. She informs her mother Jan that she wants to be an actress and is upset that her mother Is against it.

Jan is faced with a problem when she finds herself falling in love. A fun-loving Irishman tries to convince her she need not live entirely in the past with the memory of her husband, a casualty of the war.

Pat's Romance

Roommate Pat brings a date to the apartment who is drawn to Jan. Afraid of hurting her friend Pat's feeling Jan fights her own attraction to the handsome bachelor.

Stanley's Love

The deli delivery boy Stanley develops a crush on Jan which isn't reciprocated. She's embarrassed by his attentions because of his youth. Things worsen when her daughter Josie has a case of puppy love for Stanley.

Val is thrilled over her engagement to a wealthy and much-married playboy. He, however, is not too in love to overlook the charms of roommate Jan.

Stanley's Trip

Stanley decides his life lacks a future and adventure so he gets a job that will take him halfway across the world. Jan thinks Stanley is too innocent for such a position and should remain at his father's deli.

Jan gets into hot water by borrowing money from her friends. She was tricked into paying a songwriter for some "special material."

A young couple's crying baby is disturning the neighbors and they try to have the family evicted. But Jan sticks up for the husband and wife, working to find a solution that will quiet the infant plus pacify the other tenants.

Trouble begins when Jan and her girlfriends hire a young male housekeeper. They become the enemies of every husband when the other women in the apartments see how well the man does housework and insist that their husbands do likewise.

Jan's curiosity is aroused when she begins receiving gifts and flowers from an unknown admirer, who turns out to be an elderly man who sacrificed his life for his sisters but who has absolutely no interest in her.

Jan is upset when her press agent invents a romance between her and a film star even though Jan claims she hasn't even met her "beau."

The Doctor

When handsome, unmarried Dr. Phillips comes to treat Josie, all the girls fall for him. Jan soon discovers that the doctor has decided Jan is just what the doctor ordered.

Guilty Conscience

One day at the club, a longtime rival agent to Harry drops in and sees Jan's show. He offers her big time opportunities if she'll dump Harry and join his agency. She fantasizes about what it would be like as a star, but sees leaving to go with a new agent as a betrayal of friendship.

The Brooklyn Dodgers' star rookie pitcher becomes smitten with Jan, but when she rejects him, he begins losing so many ball games that he is about to be shipped back to the minors, so it's up to Jan to devise a plan to solve the problem.

Pat answers the phone and it's the wrong number but continues the conversation. She finds the stranger named Seymore intriguing and Jan encourages her to go on a date with him despite knowing virtually nothing about him.

Jan becomes the object of a matchmaking campaign when neighbors send male friends of all assortments of shapes, sizes and dispositions to look her over.

When Josie comes home from school singing the praises of her friend's mother, who is a woman lawyer, Jan takes her daughter to the nightclub to show Josie that her mom's no slouch either.

Jan, Josie and Pat hatch a plot to get Jan's agent married off, but their efforts to rearrange Harry's life so that he'll meet the right girl go awry.
