Roommate Pat brings a date to the apartment who is drawn to Jan. Afraid of hurting her friend Pat's feeling Jan fights her own attraction to the handsome bachelor.

The deli delivery boy Stanley develops a crush on Jan which isn't reciprocated. She's embarrassed by his attentions because of his youth. Things worsen when her daughter Josie has a case of puppy love for Stanley.

Val is thrilled over her engagement to a wealthy and much-married playboy. He, however, is not too in love to overlook the charms of roommate Jan.

Stanley decides his life lacks a future and adventure so he gets a job that will take him halfway across the world. Jan thinks Stanley is too innocent for such a position and should remain at his father's deli.

The Brooklyn Dodgers' star rookie pitcher becomes smitten with Jan, but when she rejects him, he begins losing so many ball games that he is about to be shipped back to the minors, so it's up to Jan to devise a plan to solve the problem.

Pat answers the phone and it's the wrong number but continues the conversation. She finds the stranger named Seymore intriguing and Jan encourages her to go on a date with him despite knowing virtually nothing about him.
