April 1775; America militia launched an attack on British troops in Boston. The start of a revolution against Britain and a civil war between American rebels and Crown colonial loyalists. By 1776, the British had been forced to withdraw.

After 3 years of trying to subdue the American rebellion, the British grew increasingly frustrated. They lost Boston and stalled in New York. Neither side was able to deliver a winning blow. So Britain shifted it's attention to the South.

1781; the American War of Independence had been raging for 5 years. A bitter struggle in which neither side had yet gained the upper hand. By the end of year a series of British mistakes, on land and sea, would transform America's destiny.
