In Faith: Rosario Livatino
2025
Sicily, 1980s. Amid a land gripped by silence and fear, a young judge rises from the shadows: Rosario Livatino, a quiet force of justice, becomes one of the first to unravel the intricate web of Sicilian organized crime. Guided by unwavering resolve and a sharp legal mind, he pioneers new paths in the battle against the Mafia - introducing bold strategies like the use of the Rognoni-La Torre law, a groundbreaking weapon that strikes the mob where it hurts the most: their wallets. For Livatino, justice is not only a duty, but a moral mission - one that must reach beyond the courtroom and into the heart of society itself, challenging a culture of silence that has reigned for generations.
But on September 21, 1990, his journey is cut short in a brutal ambush. His killers: the "Stidda", a splinter group born from the ranks of "Cosa Nostra", determined to silence a voice they could no longer control.
Then, an unexpected twist: Piero Nava, an ordinary man, witnesses the murder. In a moment of rare moral courage, he chooses to speak out, becoming the first civilian in Italy to testify against the Mafia. That choice, made in a heartbeat, will cost him everything: his name, his past, and the life he once knew, forever altering the course of his destiny.
This documentary shines a light on a man of unshakable integrity and a witness who defied fear. But more than that, it offers a haunting portrait of a land at war with itself, a Sicily where justice has a price, silence is deadly, and courage is the only way forward.
