Dr. O'Shay activates Astro by drawing all of the city's power and using it to jolt Astro to life. But the power surge overloads the Metro City Power System, turning Magnamite, the robotic power-controller, into a robotic menace. When Magnamite comes crashing across the city like a huge mechanical octopus, Astro must master his amazing powers quickly in order to save the city from the rampaging robot.

When a suspicious robot-dog leads Atom to watch a game of Robot Ball, he looks forward to a fun day at the ballpark. Instead, the game turns chaotic when the robot players start destroying the stadium and threatening the human spectators. Atom must find a way to save the humans and get the robot athletes back under control.

On Deimos, one of the two moons of Mars, is a team of automaton mining robots. These robots suddenly stop following their human foreman's orders and begin mysteriously digging on their own. Dr. Tenma builds a powerful robot named Atlas whose abilities rival Astro's. But Atlas has a rebellious nature and begins to destroy Metro City. Astro must save the city from Atlas, while beginning to learn the secrets of his own past.

Astro and Ochanomizu visit the city of Bella Notte. They encounter a local robot circus with one member, Reno, whom is actually a human boy disguised as a robot. The authorities try to take Reno away from his robot family, and the circus goes on the run.

Skunk Kusai is finally jailed, while Ms. Midori takes her students to an amusement park. While there, she tells Atom about Jumbo, an enormous grounded robot at the seaside. Midori and her family have long known Jumbo and consider him a distant friend. However, Skunk's henchmen hijack Jumbo to use him to bust their boss out of jail.

Professor Ochanomizu presents Atom with a special gift, a younger sister named Uran. She turns out to be a handful even for Atom, but has her own powers, mainly communicating with animals. Uran begins to investigate a strange phenomenon that is antagonizing birds in the area, but she runs afoul of Katari and Atom must rescue her.

Something goes wrong with Uran's inner circuitry after a trip through Metro City. After she falls ill with a computer virus, a strange scientist named Dr. Minimini confronts Ochanomizu and volunteers his own shrinking technology. Atom must operate a tiny version of himself to go into Uran's head and stop the virus.
