The first episode broadcast, with Barry Cryer getting a new assistant and a card release mechanism that malfunctions. Players include David Nixon and Don MacLean, while the show's regular "minute stand-up spot" once again goes to Ted Ray.

New to the show are Paul Andrews and Lennie Bennett, and Charlie Chester makes his first televised appearance after taking part in the unscreened pilot. Meanwhile, Ted Ray worries that having Ray Martine on his team is costing him points.

With the same teams returning from the previous week, Ted Ray is determined to win, while assistant Isabella Rye is determined to get chance to press the buttons for once. Meanwhile, the minute stand-up spot goes to Les Dawson.

Two new faces join the show in the form of Ken Earle and Kenny Cantor. This edition also sees Barry working without an assistant for the first time, instead getting a member of the audience to pick a name card for the week's stand-up spot.

Lennie Bennett, Paul Andrews and Isabella Rye all return, while Team Captain Charlie Chester is selected for the one minute stand-up spot.

Ray Martine is at his most disruptive, Les Dawson gets to do his "blowing out a candle" gag, and Ken Earle, selected for the one minute stand-up spot, cheats by bringing on his double act partner Malcolm Vaughan.

Alfred Marks takes over from Charlie Chester as Team Captain, while for the first time Les Dawson doesn't appear. In Les's place is John Junkin, while other new faces are Mike Burton and Tony Stewart. Ray Martine gets the solo spot.

For the first time an interrupter guesses the correct joke that was about to be told, while Mike Burton gets the stand-up spot. But there's sore losers when a joke gets zero points in the quick-fire round, a crucial event for the totals.

The show is broadcast in colour for the first time, while also new to the show are Dave Allenby and Jokers Wild co-creator Ray Cameron. Yet the "spontaneous" artifice of the show is threatened by Ray Martine spreading scripts on his desk.

The same panel as "last week" appear, with John Junkin the man chosen for the solo stand-up spot, and Ray Martine giving guidance on "how you can tell".

Tony Stewart has the stand-up spot, and it's not entirely clear how much of his nervousness is part of his act. Meanwhile, a gag about Jews from Alfred Marks provokes ire from Ray Martine, leading to a squabble among the panellists.

David Nixon returns as Team Leader, and brings back Les Dawson and Bobby Pattinson, while Don MacLean does the solo spot. But Barry Cryer gets increasingly perplexed that nothing is working, and gets the running order repeatedly confused.

S1 • E13
Jimmy Edwards is the guest Team Captain for a week, while Bobby Dennis is a new face on Ted's panel. The final black-and-white episode, it also marks the last appearance of Isabella as Barry's assistant. Ray Martine gets the stand-up spot.

The series shifts back into colour, a format it will remain in for the rest of the programme. There's also a new Team Captain with Ted Rogers, and a new studio, with the show shot at the City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds.

Ted Ray protests against his own team when a joke by Ray Martine wanders off the point and turns into a medley. Meanwhile, Barry Cryer admits to rigging the scores, while Lennie Bennett gets the stand-up spot.

S1 • E16
There's a new Team Captain, with Roy Hudd joining the show. Roy and Les spend most of the show in hysterics due to how old Ray Martine's jokes are, while Roy also gets the stand-up spot.

S1 • E17
A lively, chaotic show, with all concerned trying their best to put each other off. Even Les Dawson falls prey to a distraction, fluffing a gag after seeing Ted Ray trying to kiss Ray Martine. Don MacLean gets the solo stand-up spot.

Norman Collier is a new face to the series, Ray Cameron gets the stand-up spot, and Ray Martine, by his own admission, finally tells a joke correctly.

The first series ends with a lively edition containing lots of verbal sparring, and a stand-up spot for Les Dawson.
