A disillusioned ER doctor finds his existence transformed when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy's life and killing one of his attackers. When he learns the boy is still marked for death, he finds himself compelled to save him.

Infection

When Antoine disappears from his bed at the Surgical Center, John must find him quickly or face the consequences of losing a gang leader's son. Gretchen tries to convince a combative patient, Hillary, to lie about her medical condition in order to keep John clear of Bridget's suspicions.

S1 • E3

Onset

John visits Antoine's father, the leader of the VCC gang, in prison, and tries to disentangle himself from his responsibilities with Antoine. Meanwhile, things get out of control when Gretchen confronts Hillary's abusive boyfriend at his home.

Immune Response

Gretchen makes expensive arrangements to hide Antoine in order to prevent Bridget from learning that John illegally transferred him to the surgical center. That means John needs to ask the gang for money, however.

When the victims of a gang shootout spill into the ER, John must navigate rival gang members and the police while trying to halt the escalating violence. Meanwhile, Gretchen tends to the young woman who sparked the recent bloodshed.

Detective Holden, of the Gang Task Force, grills John with questions about his suspicious activity. Meanwhile, Gretchen travels to the gang neighborhood to save a young boy.

John is uncomfortable with Gretchen's request for him to work outside the law. New information from Kyle fuels Samantha's suspicions.

Relapse

John attempts to control his compulsions, but is tested when a colleague alerts him to an impending massacre. Concerned for her family's safety, Samantha turns to Detective Holden for answers.

Deterioration

Detective Holden forces John to testify against the Latin gang, provoking their anger. Meanwhile, Samantha's past threatens her marriage.

S1 • E10

Critical Condition

John and Gretchen's plans to get Antoine home are interrupted by an unexpected complication, forcing John to do everything in his power to save Antoine - and his own family.
