Frank's continued absence at Ryan's Bar causes speculation. Newspaper reporter Jack Fenelli's insinuations about Frank's involvement with local thug Nick Szabo annoy Mary. Jack meets Bob Reid, Frank's campaign manager and brother-in-law. Bob attempts to calm his sister Delia, who is still apparently still shaken by the alleged near-accident in the street. After Bucky expresses an interest in sweet Faith, Patrick insists that Bucky won't get anywhere with her romantically. Faith's brother Roger, a neurosurgeon at Riverside, takes the back stairs and discovers Frank lying at the bottom of the stairwell.

A determined Mary reassures a dubious Jack that Frank is a honest politician and only wants the best for his district. Bucky receives a visit from his aunt, Dr. Nell Beaulac, in New York without her husband Dr. Seneca Beaulac. Nell surprises Bucky with her intent to stay in New York and work at Riverside. Pat's colleague Dr. Clem Moultrie breaks the news to him that Frank has been seriously injured in a fall. In the emergency room, Roger and Pat are astonished when the nurse pulls $6500 from Frank's coat pocket.

Maeve and Ryan patriarch Johnny Ryan learn about Frank's accident from Faith. Nell confides in Bucky that she and Seneca are having marital problems because he cares more about his career than her. Learning about the gravity of Frank's injuries, Maeve and Johnny call for their priest Father McShane. While strolling through the city and talking about Frank with Mary, Jack falls into the Hudson River. The Ryan family are desperate to find Mary as Frank's condition appears hopeless.

Jack takes Mary with him to his apartment on Weehawken Street to change his wet clothes and attempts to get her into his bed. Delia approaches the verge of hysteria when Pat informs her of Frank's accident. Bucky makes Nell promise to keep their familial relationship a secret since he doesn't want anyone to know he's the heir to a family fortune. Nell receives a phone call from Seneca, but she rejects him. Mary and Jack race to Riverside Hospital after hearing about Frank.

Frank is taken away for more tests, and Pat advises the family that Frank is paralyzed. Faith won't accept Bucky's dinner date but agrees to have coffee, and they discuss how much the Coleridge and Reid families admire Frank and the Ryans. Faith and Roger's father Dr. Ed Coleridge informs everyone that Frank doesn't have brain damage, but there's a spinal injury, requiring surgery, which he'll perform with son Roger assisting. Jack is impressed by Mary and her family's devotion and resilience in the face of adversity. Bob senses something is off about Frank's "accident" and tells Mary about the money found in Frank's possession. Delia becomes more unhinged and wants to go home to Little John, her and Frank's young son.

Attorney Jill Coleridge, sister to Faith and Roger, hears about Frank's hospitalization. Mary finds Jack's presence comforting, and he promises to see her again. Jill goes to the hospital and is devastated to find him in critical condition. She recalls their great love for one another. Meanwhile, a nervous Delia wonders if Frank might ever regain consciousness and tell what happened to him.

Bob learns from Nurse Gonzales that Frank saw Nick Szabo shortly before he falling down the hospital stairs. After Chief of Staff Ed Coleridge lets Nell down by arguing that he can't afford to hire her, she goes over his head and uses her family's wealth to secure a job at Riverside. While Bob tries to find out what happened to the missing $6500 found on Frank's person, Nick Szabo lets Roger know he has nothing to fear now that Roger's gambling debts are paid.

Mary becomes enraged after Pat encourages her to put Frank's city councilman campaign on hold until Frank's condition improves, if ever. Ed and Nell clash when hospital administrator Marshall Westheimer forces him to hire her. A suspicious Bob starts asking Nick Szabo questions in an effort to find out why Frank fell down the stairs.

Frank undergoes surgery with Ed and Roger operating. Bucky offers a shoulder to cry on for an upset Faith who fears for Frank's life. Jack arrives to keep Mary company, and she regales him with stories from her childhood. Bob and Mary discuss the money that Frank was carrying when he had the accident and speculate what might have happened to it.

Dr. Seneca Beaulac arrives in New York to take Nell back home with him, but she explains why she won't go back. Ed won't answer when Johnny wants to know if Frank will make a full recovery. While Ed and Faith worry about Frank, he tries to open his eyes.

Delia whines to Maeve about Mary's brusque behavior, and Maeve asks Mary to be more sensitive to Delia. Faith sets Bucky straight about their relationship which considers platonic. Delia gloats over Mary's apology. Jill reminisces about her love affair with Frank. While Jill sits by his bedside, Frank begins to speak Delia's name.

Jill calls for medical staff when Frank begins to speak Delia's name, but later, as Ed attends to him, Frank loses consciousness again. Bucky and Nell commiserate over their complicated love lives. After reviewing Frank's plates, Nell speculates to Ed that Frank's recovery is doubtful. While Mary visits with him, Franks starts to mumble again and says the word "push."

After trying to indicate to Mary that he was pushed, Frank loses consciousness. Ed comes in at the end of an upsetting phone call between Nell and Seneca and asks her out, but she declines. Delia becomes notably agitated when Mary informs the family that Frank has moments of consciousness in which he says Delia's name.

Delia exploits her status as Frank's wife to upset Jill. Jack questions Nick Szabo about the exact nature of his business with Frank. Faith gives Bucky a painting of a ship and accepts his dinner date. Bob threatens Jack after hearing him fishing for information about Frank from Nick. Delia confides in Pat that Bob is acting as if he thinks there's more to Frank's fall than a simple accident.

Nell informs Ed that Frank's latest X-rays might suggest the development pneumonia. Faith tries to slow down Bucky who forgets that he and Faith are just palling around as platonic friends. Ed performs a tracheotomy on Frank as his airway is becoming more restricted. Bob despairs over not being able to uncover any more information about what caused Frank's fall. While visiting an unconscious Frank with Mary, Bob becomes emotional and begs Frank to wake up and tell them who hurt him. Bucky and Faith spend their day off together, and Faith starts to get drunk from Aquavit.

Jack turns his investigation of Frank toward Jill, who refuses to say anything which only stokes his suspicions. Later, Jill recalls more of her affair with Frank. Faith passes out while drinking with Bucky, who still wants a romantic relationship with her. Roger and Jill visit Frank, and while supporting his sister, Roger's comments make Jill suspicious that he might know something about Frank's accident.

Delia attempts to find out from Pat what Bob has uncovered in his investigation of Frank's fall. Mary finds out more about Jack.An upset Faith awakens after drinking too much then accuses Bucky of trying to take advantage of her. Mary has a sixth sense that Frank desperately needs her and insists they go to the hospital immediately. Meanwhile, Pat stops by Frank's room to check on him and finds him gasping for air.

Ed and Nell share a kiss. Delia admits to Pat that sometimes she thinks she should have married him instead of Frank. Bucky pressures Faith to spend another day on his houseboat. News of Frank's improvement is cause for celebration at Ryan's. Faith's exchange with Maeve touches Patrick who begins to see Faith differently. Mary turns down a date with Bob to keep one with Jack. Wanting to be with the Ryan family, Faith regrets agreeing to spend the day on Bucky's houseboat. Mary and Jack share their first kiss.

Delia panics when Nurse Gonzalez phones with the news that Frank might wake up. Faith inadvertently walks in on an intimate moment between her father and Nell. Faith's fun time at Ryan's bar is deflated by the arrival of pretty, easygoing nurse Nancy, who dances with Patrick and Bucky. After catching Ed kissing Nell, Seneca informs his wife that he has decided to move to New York in order to win her back. Intimidated by Nancy, an upset and jealous Faith decides to go home.

Mary and Jack get to know one another while looking after Little John, leading to their disparate views on marriage on family. Inside Frank's hospital room, a desperate Delia begs Frank to conceal the truth that she pushed him down the stairs at Riverside. Faith talks openly with Bucky about her frigidity. Mary and Bob rush to Riverside upon hearing that Frank is awake and talking. They ask Frank what happened in the stairwell as a terrified Delia stands nearby hoping he'll keep her secret,

Much to Delia's relief, Frank lies to Mary and Bob, claiming that the missing money was from his own bank account to be used for campaign finances, and he has no memory of the fall. Maeve and Johnny begin to worry about Mary's continued association with Jack. In private, Frank tells Delia in no uncertain terms that he's keeping her secret because he doesn't want his campaign damaged by scandal, and he hasn't decided whether or not he wants to continue their sham of a marriage. Later, Delia has it out with Jill over Frank. Mary and Jack argue when Jack says flatly he thinks Frank's lying about the accident and the money.

Frank and Nick Szabo meet to discuss the situation with the $6500. Nell reassures Ed that she no longer wants to be married to Seneca. Frank has to cover when Mary wonders why he's talking with Nick. After Frank reveals what he knows and vows to fight him, Nick coldly informs him that he'll destroy his political career. Frank sends Mary for Maeve and Johnny, who now have to hear the truth about his affair with Jill before Nick makes it public.

Frank bares his soul to his parents who are stunned to learn of his affair and being blackmailed by Roger and Nick Szabo. Bucky persuades Nell to stop the car on the expressway when her wild driving threatens both of their lives. Bell admits to Seneca that she had managed to deal with her diagnosis until he made her care, and now she regrets all the things she'll lose. Faith and Pat report her secret admirer to Bob, but he informs them police can't do anything because no laws have been broken. Bucky tells Maeve that Nell has a second inoperable aneurysm. Mary and Bucky agree that sex and love can't be taken casually. Maeve asks Johnny to not make trouble at Christmas where Jack is concerned. Delia asks Bob to forgive Frank now that she and Frank are staying together, and Bob agrees to join her at Ryan's for Christmas Eve. Back home, Delia finds Jill's letter but refuses to give it to Frank, who falls out of his wheelchair to floor while trying to get the letter away from her.

Kenneth mortifies Faith with his confession about hiding in her closet when she was with Pat, and loses his cool when she impulsively declares him crazy. Nell and Seneca watch the city from their terrace. She thanks him for loving her and lets him know that she has written him a letter that's hidden in her jewelry box. Shortly afterward, Nell collapses. In the hidden room, Kenneth refuses to let Faith leave until she learns to accept his love for her. Faith makes a mad dash for freedom, but falls and is knocked unconscious in the passageway outside the morgue.

Faith regains consciousness and begs Kenneth to take her home. Seneca begs Nell not to let go following her collapse. Unable to speak or move, Nell tells Seneca in her mind how much she loves him. Kenneth carries an injured Faith back into the morgue. Faith fears her leg is broken, and Kenneth insists he'll set it for her. At Riverside, Nell is prepped for an angiogram. Bucky worries after a spinal tap shows massive amounts of blood in Nell's spinal fluid. Seneca considers operating on Nell to extend her time. After sending Mary out on an interview alone, she finds it funny when her subject turns out to be Sam in disguise. Sam explains his reasoning for his joke on Mary and Jack. Faith uses the page from a crossroad puzzle to write a note for help and divulging her location. An EEG is administered to determine the extent of Nell's brain damage. Faith manages to tape her note to the back of Kenneth's lab coat, and later a Riverside patient notices it.

A hospital patient reads Faith's note, but Kenneth is relieved when he realizes that she doesn't read or speak English. Seneca refuses to give up even though Nell's EEG shows that she has no cortical brainwave pattern, though he later concedes to Ed that there's no hope left. Bucky phones his mother with news that Nell is in an irreversible coma. Seneca breaks down in tears over Nell. An angry Kenneth confronts Faith and vows to not let Pat destroy her. Jill grows more concerned about Faith's absence.

Wanting to please him, an excited Delia tells Frank all about her plans to take Chinese cooking lessons from Mrs. Lem, and he disappoints her again. After Seneca laments to Maeve that Nell could live on indefinitely in a comatose state, Maeve tells him about the conversations she had with Nell regarding death. Mary encourages an unhappy Frank. Sam informs Mary that the environmental protection agency has offered to take them on a tour of the city's sewer system. When Roger shows an interest, Delia invites him to go to Lem's in Frank's place.

Pat informs Jill that he hasn't seen Faith since she left yesterday for the beach. After having fun with Delia at Lem's, Roger wants another cooking lesson together next week. Kenneth plays it cool with Pat and Jill after overhearing them talk about Faith's disappearance. Using a chair as a walker, Faith attempts to escape the morgue. When Delia stops by Frank's office and initiates another argument, this one in front of his secretary Georgia, he gives her permission to pursue outside interests. Pat takes Kenneth's advice about informing the police and calls for Bob. Kenneth's arrival interrupts Faith's escape plan, and he moves the chair out of her reach.

Bob and Ed have an expert examine Faith's note and determine that it is in Faith's handwriting. Bob guesses that Faith was kidnapped by her secret admirer who probably works in the hospital. Faith slowly suffocates as the hospital gas is turned back on.

When Frank overhears Delia talking on the phone with Roger, she pretends she's going to visit her friend "Sheila". Kenneth eludes security at Riverside to make his way down to the morgue. A nurse tips off Pat that she just saw Kenneth leaving the oxygen room and entering the hospital stairwell. Nick arrives at Reenie's hotel to find that she can't walk. Kenneth races down the stairs unaware that Pat is following him. Delia decides she can stay as late as she wants with Roger since no one cares where she is. Kenneth informs Faith that they're in trouble and he has to leave her, but before he can go, Pat finds them.

Kenneth doesn't want Pat to touch Faith because he always hurts her. Roger doesn't understand why the Ryans don't appreciate Delia. While Pat examines Faith, Kenneth quietly slips out and runs away. Faith asks Pat if she's going to die. Delia sings the praises of her cooking class to Maeve then secretly phones Roger. Pat has to leave Faith to go for help, and she begins to panic.

Faith is rescued from the morgue. Jack confesses to Mary that he worried he'd lose her, and now realizes he's beginning to love her in the same way she loves him. Nick clashes with Bucky when he and Reenie arrive at Riverside Hospital. Reenie fears her paralysis will reach her lungs and kill her. Delia reminds Frank that she's waiting to have sex with him now that he's not with Jill. Marguerite asks Seneca to consider if Nell would want him to risk his freedom and ability to practice medicine in order to set her free. Reenie reveals to Bucky that she and Leo were eloping when she got sick. Nick refuses to find Leo for Reenie. When Frank comes home early to spend time with her and Little John, Delia gives him the silent treatment and makes a date with Roger. Mary introduces Sam, and later Frank, to her hospital friend Mrs. Mills. Frank tells Mary he can't help Mrs. Mills at the nursing home unless she overcomes her fears and talks to him. Delia and Roger's newfound friendship turns passionate. Seneca argues Nell's right to die with Marguerite and Bucky. After Marguerite sings a death chant, Seneca leaves for the hospital.

Kenneth torments Faith's dreams. At the hospital, Seneca holds Nell's hand and recalls their time together. Roger gives Reenie a tentative diagnosis of Guillain Barre syndrome, and neither she nor Nick are happy with the prescribed treatment. Faith insists to Ed and Bob that Kenneth isn't through with her. Pretending to be Pat, Kenneth convinces the hospital operator to put his call through to Faith. Faith becomes hysterical when Kenneth says he loves her and is coming for her. Bob decides to have a 24 hour guard outside Faith's hospital room. After he imagines Nell telling him that she loves him and will wait for him, Seneca turns off her respirator and holds her as a shocked Roger enters the room.

Johnny tells Bob about Mary and Jack's possible marriage. After surgery in the recovery room, Faith imagines Kenneth promising that she'll be sorry. Meanwhile, dressed in a mask and surgical gown, Kenneth sneaks into Faith's hospital room with a scalpel. Bob shares with Johnny when he fell in love with Mary. Mrs. Mills gives Mary permission to visit her once they both go home. Faith screams to go home when she's returned to her room and discovers that Kenneth has destroyed it.

The Ryan family and their friends celebrate St. Patrick's Day at the bar. Bob tells Pat about Kenneth's knife attack on Faith's room at the hospital. Delia secretly phoned Roger during the family celebration. While Mary dances with Bob, Johnny decides to have a word with Jack about his plans for Mary. Delia slips off and ends up in Roger's arms. Jack stands up to Johnny, but Mary blames Jack. Jack loses his temper and walks out on her when he finds out that Mary told Maeve about their marriage talk.

Delia panics when she awakens in bed with Roger only to discover she overslept and should be home. Roger helps Delia come up with a solid lie for her whereabouts. Nick threatens to cut her off financially if Reenie drops out of school and gets her own apartment. Sam again refuses to help Reenie when she's adamant about not telling him why her suitcase is so important. Frank encourages Mary to phone Jack but it backfires. Frank believes an adulterous Delia's lies. Bucky catches Reenie sneaking out of Riverside in the middle of the night, and she decides to tell Sam the truth.

Bucky informs Mary that Hugh Sharp took Mrs. Mills out of the hospital and back to the nursing home before she was set to be released. Mary admits to Bucky she's ambivalent about Reenie because of the way she got her sister Siobhan in trouble as children. Reenie and Sam make a deal. Kenneth phones for Ed and decides Faith has to be punished when a visiting Pat answers. Faith sends Pat away arguing that her father is the only man she can trust. Sam finds a way to justify hiring Reenie as a gofer at Channel R.

Delia lies to Frank that she's going out to see a movie recommended by her friend Sheila. Sister Mary Joel shared with Jack the details of her visit with Johnny. Ed, Clem, and Roger are served with subpoenas for the grand jury in Seneca's case. After Roger appears to insinuate he could change his mind about what he saw in exchange for not being dropped at the end of his contract, an angry Seneca vows he'll be fired July as planned. Jill suggests that Seneca wants to testify on his behalf so badly because he wants to be punished for the way he treated Nell during their marriage. Roger gives Delia a key to his door. Ed catches Roger and Delia together in his apartment.

A panicked Roger wonders what Ed will do now that he knows Roger and Delia are having an affair. Kenneth climbs onto the roof of the Coleridge brownstone. Delia promises Roger that she'll talk to Ed and convince him that the affair wasn't Roger's fault. An angry Jack explains to Maeve how furious he is about Johnny interfering with Sister Mary Joel. Ed promises Faith that Kenneth will never hurt her again, and vows to make it up to her for the times he wasn't attentive to her as a child. Kenneth deliberately makes noises to distract the police guard and Ed who leave Faith alone. After climbing down from the roof, Kenneth sneaks into Faith's room and raises a pillow to smother her.

Mary demands that Johnny settle things with Jack now. Faith tells Ed that Kenneth is in the house. Ed follows Kenneth, who pushes him off the roof to his death. Roger and Delia find Ed's body on the terrace. Rogers sends Delia away before anyone sees her. Mary and Johnny's fight pushes her too far. Roger breaks the news to Faith that Ed was killed while chasing Kenneth. Faith blames herself for her father's death.

Roger expresses his sincere love to Delia. Johnny's attitude toward Jack creates problems with Maeve. Mary promises a worried Faith that everything will be all right. Frank wants to comfort Jill who admits she still wants him, too. While Frank and Jill resolve to be good and faithful, Delia is in bed making love with Roger.

Johnny helps Faith accept the fact of her father's death. Johnny persuades Faith to return home with him. Maeve tries to reassure a skeptical Faith that she's safe now. Seneca reminds Jill that Harriet Hill was the woman people thought he was having an affair with when Nell left him. Jill advises Seneca that he'll be in deep trouble if Levine can uncover anything that could be construed as scandalous in his relationship with Harriet.

Jill grills Seneca about Harriet Hill. Clem vows to expose Roger's dodgy ethics no matter where he goes. An upset Roger begs Delia to see him. Levine unnerves Bucky into an outburst on the witness stand. Roger tells Delia that he intends to fight for her and will win. Bucky makes headway in Seneca's defense, but then Levine calls Nell's sister Diana to the stand, the only witness who could possibly hurt Seneca with testimony about Harriet Hill.

Levine puts Diana on the witness stand and has her testify that she found Seneca and Harriet Hill sharing a hotel suite in San Francisco. Maeve and Mary inundate Jack with talk of the upcoming wedding. Jill manages to control the damage by having Diana state that Seneca's hotel suite had two bedrooms that he and Harriet didn't share. Pushed too far with wedding talk, Jack phones Martha McKee, offering to meet with her to discuss Frank's campaign. Mrs. Mills defies Sharp and goes to talk with Hector, but screams when she finds his inert body.

Mrs. Mills finds Hector who has tried to commit suicide in protest over conditions at Gilchrest. After learning from financial records that Nick Szabo is likely the owner of the nursing home, Mary learns of Hector's touch and go condition. Sharp threatens Mrs Mills to keep quiet. After being confronted with Bob, Sharp's attitude changes with his promise that Hector doesn't have to leave Gilchrest. Fearing for Hector's life, Mrs. Mills agrees to go to Channel R with Mary and tell what she knows.

Mary and Sam convince a reluctant Mrs. Mills to tell her story herself on camera. Delia asks Frank if they can move back to their own apartment for more privacy since she's getting too much attention from her friend Sheila. Roger sends Delia an enormous bouquet of flowers. Bob arrives at Channel R with news of Hector and watches Mrs. Mills' interview. Frank persuades Delia to wait a few more weeks to move home. Roger refuses to stop indulging Delia with gifts. Bob tells everyone that Hector was saved. Sam agrees to keep Reenie in the dark when Mary reveals to him that Nick owns the nursing home. Roger blackmails Delia into continuing their affair.

Jack meets with Martha McKee to discuss Frank, but he fails to divulge his personal connection with the Ryan family. Bucky kisses Reenie. Frank wonders if Mary has nailed Nick. Seneca and Roger square off following Roger's testimony, and Roger's taunts cause a physical reaction in Seneca.

Roger receives an unexpected visit from Father McShane, sent at Delia's urging. Reenie faces a tense meeting with Bucky's mother Diana, who questions her about Nick. Nick meets with Hugh Sharp. Roger is polite to Father McShane though he refuses to end his relationship with Delia. Nick and Sharp are stunned when Mary's story about Gilchrest Manor airs. Meanwhile, Reenie is watching with Bucky and Diana, and is mortified by the implications surrounding Nick.

Mary doubts Nick's veracity, while Reenie comments on how he just barely pulled off his scheme. Nick suggests he has a way for Reenie to handle her problem with Bucky. Mary needs to rush home for a file, just as Jack and Martha are beginning to make love on his bed.

Jack begins to get cold feet as his meeting with Martha grows more passionate. At Seneca's trial, Harriet Hill takes the witness stand and testifies that she and Seneca didn't have an affair. Jack leaves Martha alone to run out and get them breakfast before they go to bed together. Under cross-examination, Harriet unnerves Seneca when she admits that although they weren't lovers, she's always been in love with him. Mary arrives home to find Martha, who realizes Jack hasn't been honest with either one of them. Martha downplays her visit to Jack, but then Jack returns home and is stunned to find Mary and Martha together.

Following her testimony, Harriet wants a word with Seneca. Jack fumbles around as Martha makes veiled comments about his reputation for honesty then leaves. A suspicious Mary asks Jack to tell her what just happened with Martha. Harriet and Seneca apologize to one another. Dr. Hagen helps Seneca's case immensely by testifying that in his opinion Nell was already dead long before Seneca turned off her life support. Mary and Jack fight and then make up, but an angry Martha calls to tell Jack what a jerk he is for deceiving her and Mary, who deserves better.

Levine and Jill become heated when Dr. Hagen testifies that Seneca shouldn't be on trial. Delia rejects Father McShane's suggestion that she end her torment by confessing to Frank her affair with Roger. Pat testifies about his conversation with Nell regarding her opinion on the right to die. Seneca receives a certified letter from the medical board and worries his medical license is going to be revoked. Pat attempts to support an upset Delia, who can't confide in him about Roger.

Worried it's Roger calling, Delia won't answer the ringing phone but then is forced to when Maeve comes in. Roger forces Delia to meet him at Lem's. Unaware that he's killing Jack with fake kindness, Maeve praises Johnny for getting along with Jack. Johnny opines that Jack won't ever make it down the aisle with Mary. Delia lies to Frank that she's meeting Sheila for dinner. Jack admits to Sister Mary Joel that his proposal to Mary was just a ploy to get her back then comes up with another scheme to stop the wedding. As Delia waits at Lem's for Roger's arrival, Frank suddenly shows up determined to meet Sheila.

Delia panics when Roger arrives at Lem's and sees Frank with her. Jack has his editor phone and offer him the post of covering the Democratic National Convention, but Mary wonders how Jack can accept with their wedding approaching. Roger invites himself to join Frank and Delia at Lem's. Mary and Jack get into another fight when she questions if he really wants to get married. Delia walks out on Roger arguing that it will always be her and Frank, but Roger knows that would end if Frank knew the truth.

Maeve testifies at Seneca's trial. Mary asks Sister Mary Joel if Jack really wants marriage. After Jill reads Nell's letters to Seneca in open court, the defense rests its case. Seneca confronts Assistant DA Levene, then Jill worries that he'll blow the case when they're so close to winning.

Jill begs an agitated Seneca to not unravel in front of the jury. Nick pays a visit to Sam and suggests he disappear. Jill gives her closing summation to the jury. Bucky wants to spend private time with Reenie. On his way out of New York, Sam wants to have a word with Bucky and Reenie. Seneca loses his cool during Levene's closing summation, demanding that the jury hear the truth about what happened in Nell's hospital room when he pulled the plug on her.

Seneca is allowed to take the stand and address the jury, but Levene maneuvers him into admitting he knew he was committing a crime and would do it again. Sister Mary Joel issues Jack an ultimatum regarding Mary. As a parting gift to Nick, Sam sabotages Reenie's chances with Bucky. Jack reassures Mary. The jury leaves to decide Seneca's fate.

Johnny, Frank, and Bob converge on Delia's hotel room. Frank spots Delia out the window on the tenth story ledge, but she says it's too late and tells him to go. Jack goes to Joe and tells him to forget Siobhan. EJ places Barbara's copy of the script on a high shelf but Barbara uses a mechanical device to grab it. Their cat and mouse game will continue. The end credits appear over a shot of the boom mike.

Matthew says that Delia left him alone on their wedding night and did not give him her pills. Pru and Rick are mugged. Max catches Maggie and she says she is not leaving. She vows if he doesn't put a stop to Lizzie messing with John Reid's head, she'll take matters into her own hands, and the results won't be pretty. Sherry continues her game with Emily, finally confessing that she slipped away from the riding party, took a helicopter into Manhattan, murdered Richard, and was back before anyone found her missing. Emily is stunned to hear the confession and accuses Sherry of trying to drive her insane with all of her details. Sherry denies the claims and says she doesn't know what she's talking about. Emily screams that none of it is true, she's just playing with her, manipulating her. Emily knows it because she really did kill Richard, not Sherry. As Emily confesses and grabs her coat to leave, Jack, Frank, and Detective Vaughn step out of the shadows. They've heard the entire conversation.

With her and Sherry's statements he plans to make a case to the grand jury for manslaughter. Emily is shocked that she won't be charged with murder, and Sherry admits she's unhappy too as she had nothing in life to look forward to except revenge against Emily. Dakota threatens to make Delia pay for talking Malachi into making him resign as district leader. Sherry tells Frank she might stay in New York and run her father's investment firm. An excited John Reid informs Delia that he's being appointed district leader, replacing Dakota. Emily says a regretful goodbye to Jack.

Leigh expresses her outrage over Matthew's lack of journalistic integrity and credits Jack with teaching her to take the profession more seriously. Maeve tells Frank to back off Fenno and accept the fact that Joe and Siobhan chose their own path with Fenno's help, not his. Fenno reassures Sean that he is loved and has nothing to fear. Nancy Dons returns and explains to Chaz what happened with Rob, which was the result of being jealous of Ryan. Roger tries to help Ben see that Lizzie has made her choice and he has to accept that she wants John Reid. With Jack's support, Leigh faces phoning her father Hollis about the engagement, and when she does, he refuses to attend. Life couldn't get any better for Zena who has been offered a three record contract and has the love of a large family. She and Jack talk about how far she has come. Fenno questions Sherry about Roger, Chaz, and John Reid, all three suspects in Rob's attack. He also comforts her with an anecdote from his childhood in which he recovered from a head injury. Talking with Fenno, Siobhan and Kevin agree that Roger never would have risked injuring his hands by physically attacking Rob. Instead he would have taken psychological revenge. Delia's tip about Antoine sends Fenno to the Excelsior Hotel, where Antoine and all of his belongings are now gone after speaking with a man who fits Roger's description. Sherry worries when Roger informs her that Rob's blood pressure is elevated and his heart rate erratic.

Ben is ecstatic when Lizzie lets herself in to his apartment saying she's left John Reid because she can't deny her love for Ben any longer. They move to the bed and begin to kiss, but then Ben realizes that he has fantasized the entire scene. Meanwhile, Fenno and Siobhan question John Reid and Lizzie about the events leading to Rob's attack. Zena tries to visit Rob at Riverside and has a sweet encounter with Sherry. Chaz shows Nancy Don a manly display of possessiveness. Frank warns Fenno to stop interfering in his investigation. When Rob's condition takes a turn for the worse and Roger fears his hand might not be ready to perform surgery, Sherry agrees to call in another surgeon. Chaz and Nancy agree that they love one another but not in the crazy way they each do Ryan and Ben. Jill realizes that Maeve is upset about something to do with Faith.

Ben isn't as sympathetic as Maggie would like. Roger and Delia agree they won't Maggie make trouble.

Ben kisses Lizzie passionately to say goodbye. Siobhan agrees to be Fenno's partner. Bobby learns he won the lottery. Maggie and Delia are at a stalemate. Pat asks Faith if Grace is his daughter but she stalls him by saying that Maeve is about to sing. Maeve sings Danny Boy and tells everyone to "have a good life."
