When Sarge is questioned for passing a counterfeit note, Hal turns amateur criminologist and investigates his new neighbors, convinced that they must be printing fake money.

UN delegate Martino and his wife are rushing to the hospital for an imminent birth but it won't wait. They stop at Hal's apartment where quintuplets are delivered. Hal becomes frustrated as he can't report on the biggest story around.

After Hal writes about much engaged heiress Paula Hamilton, she arrives in his office outraged. She decides revenge is best if she convinces Hal to aspire to high society. Randy and Sarge show him the error of his ways.

Randy meets a new girl in his apartment building and falls head over heels in love. He writes a series of mash notes, but the letters are intercepted by the girl's grandmother who thinks they're from Randy's father and meant for her.

Hal has generally been pleased with Randy's grades but his expectations change when he meets a super smart child. Hal begins to demand more from his son in academics despite being warned of his unreasonableness.

Hal thinks Randy is wanting more time away from him to be with other kids his age so the son is sent to camp. Randy believes his dad just wants to vacation without him. The misunderstanding leads to unhappiness all around.

Hal help a publicity shy celebrity friend of his plan his wedding, keeping it a secret from everyone. Sarge get the wrong idea and thinks Hal is to wed Karen so the housekeeper organizes a different celebration.

Hal decides to give a struggling young actress a plug in his newspaper column. He decides her real name, Gretchen Clayhipple, is too hard to remember and without consulting her changes it to June Thursday
