Now in her twenties, Anne returns to Avonlea for the first time since Marilla's death. Soon after, Gilbert is offered a position in a hospital in NY and persuades Anne to come with him. From NY, to the WWI and eventually back to Avonlea.

Having finished his medical studies, Gilbert takes Anne to live in New York for a while, before they go back to Avonlea to get married. Soon after, Gilbert will leave to act as a doctor in Europe during WWI.

Anne has been in Europe searching for Gilbert for several months when she encounters Jack Garrison, which will set off a string of consequences that will difficult her search for her beloved husband.
