Everyone in Châteauvallon is flocking to the 50th anniversary evening of "La Dépêche republicaine", the newspaper of the rich Berg family. The opportunity for the cursed heiress, Florence, to make her comeback.

The day after the evening at the Commanderie, the journalist Paul Bossis is found murdered in the gardens of the property. He was investigating a real estate transaction suspected of embezzlement of public funds.

In the case of the assassination of Paul Bossis, his friend and journalist André Travers carries out his investigation in parallel with that of the Police , the trail leads him straight to the town hall and the Sablons construction site.

La Dépêche employees are the target of attacks. The anxiety is gaining yet another notch in the newspaper. Among the Kovalic family, the patriarch's affairs greatly intrigue his nephew Bernard.

All the paper intended for printing Florence's newspaper has been thrown into the Loire. To repair this act of sabotage, Catherine puts aside her resentment for her father, Patriarch Kovalic, and asks him to save La Dépêche.

Bernard announces to Albertas that he wants to return to the United States. The latter accuses him of treachery.

Following Teddy's death, large numbers of banknotes were burned in a vacant lot and the police ballistics report shows that the weapon Teddy allegedly used had already killed a carabiniere in Turin.

Bernard takes all the sins of the Kovalic clan and goes to the police. Travers promises to follow Catherine, pregnant with him, to Paris. Florence is heartbroken.
