In the 21st century, a family of vampires settled down on the grounds of Japan and lived a modest life whilst sucking on the blood of humans discreetly. However, the eldest daughter of the family, Karin Maaka, has an embarassing secret which cannot be revealed to anyone. Even though she is a vampire, she does not lack blood like her family members. Instead, she overproduces blood to the extent that she transfuses the excess into her victims, hence increasing their blood levels. Despite her troubling body characteristic, she attends school like any other high school student, that is until a new transfer student, Kenta Usui, enters her life.

Meet Karin Maaka. Though she appears to be a normal high school girl, there is a secret about her life that she MUST keep: she's from a family of vampires.

Atashi no konomi wa hazukashii

Karin begs Kenta to keep her nosebleeds a secret. He does so, even cleaning up her mess. Karin is left perplexed as to why her blood increases faster around him.

Shiawasette hazukashii

Karin continues her mission to lessen Kenta's misery, making him lunches for school.

Barechatte hazukashii

Kenta is suspicious of Karin still.

Kazoku sorotte hazukashii

Ren attempts to wipe Kenta's memory, but is stopped by Anju.

Kâ san genki de hazukashii

Due to Karin's blood still having an effect on her, Fumio is constantly positive; however, after numerous failed attempts to get a job, the effects of the blood fade and Fumio goes back to being depressed.

Vampire hunter Winner Sinclair transfers to Karin's school.

Mitsukacchatte hazukashii

Karin has a nosebleed at school, forcing her and Kenta to hide. Because they disappeared and the puddle of blood, Winner assumes a vampire has sent a servant to take blood from them.

Furikaeruto... hazukashii

Anju becomes more involved with helping Karin with her relationship with Kenta.

S1 • E10

Papa wa tottemo hazukashii

Due to the recent mayhem since Kenta and Winner arrived, Karin was not able to focus on her school work; as a result she fails a test.

Atsu da! Pûru da! hazukashii

Winner gives Karin a ticket to a resort, hoping to win her heart on a date.

S1 • E12

Yappari aniki wa hazukashii

Much to Karin's shock, Ren is targeting Fumio as a potential victim, due to the stress her unhappiness causes; Karin plans to bite her again to repel Ren (whom she fears will do more than just bite Fumio).
