The rangers discover evidence of a poaching ring in park boundaries. They put all their resources into apprehending the criminals before the deer are decimated.

In a crossover episode titled Urban Rangers, Kevin Tighe and Randolph Mantooth appear in Sierra as their EMERGENCY! characters. Story: Johnny and Roy arrive at park headquarters, (in Randy's Land Cruiser) to participate in a cross-training program between the LA County Fire Department and the Sierra National Park Rangers. For Johnny and Roy this involves Mountain Rescue training. Some of the other story lines are: They participate in the attempted capture of Cruncher the wayward bear. Johnny tries to date Julie, the only female Park Ranger assigned to the unit, but keeps getting interrupted. Roy considers a career change to become a Park Ranger. Johnny and Roy go off alone on an easy day climb as part of their training and come across an injured climber, Johnny stays with the injured person and Roy goes for help. Roy, while running to get help, trips, falls, and sustains a head injury becoming unconscious; he is carrying his climbing helmet - not wearing it. The Park Rangers, noting that they are over an hour late in getting back go searching for them and find Roy still unconscious. The Rangers transport Roy to the park hospital; find Johnny and the injured climber and they too are rescued. While visiting Roy in the hospital, Johnny, learning that Ranger Julie is now unavailable, tries to make a date with Roys nurse.

Senator Gregory Parker is running for re-election and has cultivated a outdoorsy image for his constituents. He insists on taking his two sons on a wilderness trek against the advice of the rangers and his staff, which leads to disaster.

Rangers stalk a furious bear that has managed to become trapped in an old automobile tire. People rescued include a camper stuck in a sleeping bag, and a diver pinned underwater when a boulder falls on his leg.

An out of control fire threatens the lives of staff and visitors of the park. The rangers must lead campers on a two day hike away from the raging flames to safety.

A young boy gets lost in treacherous terrain leaving Rangers Tim and Matt to conduct a race against time to find him. Cruncher the bear takes a surprise water trip on a raft.

The rangers are on high alert when a group of campers are attacked by a rampaging bear. A fire starts among the majestic redwoods and the chief suspect is a child playing with matches.

Rangers Tim and Matt finds themselves taking care of a young deer. Then a lost boy is reported with the two young park employees leading the search and rescue team.
